Synopsis:
There is nothing in Antarctica. Well, not much, anyway, other than penguins and snow, which makes it the perfect place for all manner of scientific research to occur. But just because there aren’t a ton of things out there that can kill doesn’t mean scientists don’t need protection. That’s where Kail Black comes in. As a soldier, Kail is built for combat and is perfectly capable of protecting himself and others.
But one day, he wakes up.
He has no memories of what happened, but all that’s left of the research facility is him and a single scientist whom he doesn’t immediately recognize, named Revo. Revo explains that a monster attacked the base and, while being airlifted out, they were knocked out of the sky. That must be why Kail lost his memory, but he can’t shake the eerie feeling he has regarding Revo. But Kail is a soldier. He can handle himself.
He can handle himself when he’s awake, that is.
Review:
I started reading another ongoing title by the same writer and artist, and I wanted to give this a go since I am waiting on the ongoing one to finish before I finally dive into it. I will say, the art style in both titles is rough. I use this term a lot when I find work sketchy and inconsistent, but this time, I feel like even that is an understatement. There are panels where it looks like Kail’s body is being blown up with a helium tank, or where his wrist is broken, neither of which is the case. It just looks bad, and that is unfortunate. Not unexpected based on my prior experience, but unfortunate nonetheless.

Story-wise, let’s be real. This is 6 episodes long. I was not going into this expecting another Legroom or masterpiece, and because of that, I was not disappointed. It is far from a masterpiece, and the story is as superficial as they come, but that isn’t actually a bad thing. This is meant to be a smutfest, and it doesn’t try to be anything else. That is so refreshing. I can’t express how frustrating it is to read a short that tries to pack in a bunch of heavy plot and squeeze in smut. Reading this with lower expectations is the way to go.
Now, it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger that I imagine most people will be furious about, but I didn’t mind it. What pissed me off more than that is all the buildup about Kail being impregnated, and then we never get to see a baby bump or a baby. Sure, there is also the lack of clarity on why Revo attacked the base and why he chose Kail, but none of that mattered to me. When a smutty short promises mpreg, I expect some payoff, and unfortunately, that isn’t here. So, if, like me, male pregnancy is something you long for and hope to see result in something other than just being told a character is pregnant, you will be disappointed.
But let’s finish this up by talking about what is really important in this short, and that is smut. This is noncon heavy, as almost all of the sex is initiated while Kail is asleep. And while the art isn’t always the nicest to look at, the general acts are fun. There are also tentacles. If you like tentacles, there are lots of them. They are mainly used for bondage purposes, so they don’t have a super active role, but they are a fun addition.
Results:
This is smutty nonsense. If you come into it expecting anything more than that, then you are definitely going to be disappointed. But if you come in with the right set of expectations, namely coming in just looking for a short, superficial, tentacle-laden romp, you will probably come away having had at least a decent time. This is far from a favorite, but it was a nice palate cleanser between more serious and longer titles.
