My Lover's Necktie - Elements

Synopsis:

Ayla is a powerful vampire. He spends most of his time traveling around and causing all manner of mayhem to entertain himself. Thankfully, this means less trouble for his staff, who are also victims of their master’s boredom when he is around. After a particularly troublesome bout, Ayla finally returns home. As he is getting settled back at home in his mansion, and beginning to seek out where he is going to cause trouble next, trouble finds him in the form of an assassin. A man attacks Ayla, and Ayla is all too happy to fight back.

But as the fight goes on, Ayla realizes there is something special about this man.

For one, he has been put under a mind control spell, which would explain why someone would even try to attack Ayla in the first place. Secondly, he has some intense, rare dark magic for a human. Once Ayla has neutralized the man, he determines that he might be interesting enough to keep around.

Review:

It is wild to me how much I enjoy Chada‘s older stuff. Define the Relationship, probably the title they are most known for, makes me uncomfortable because I found Ash creepy, but I really enjoyed their other short, Date Me, Too!. When they are the writer and the artist, I seem to like their work more, and it makes me really sad that we don’t have more of it currently licensed. The cover art doesn’t do this short justice, and I’d argue it is just as nice, art-wise, as any of their more recent stuff, if not better. I’m a fan, for sure.

Now, I’m not going to pretend this is some masterpiece because it isn’t, but it is really fun. If you are a muscle bottom enthusiast, like me, then anything Chada makes on their own will certainly bring you joy on that front, but in the case of this title, if dubcon/noncon isn’t your thing, then this won’t be either. I, personally, love dubcon/noncon, so I was all over it, and Ayla being the playful troublemaker top just speaks to me. With only seven episodes, it is definitely a whirlwind, but it is a delicious morsel. It does have a bit of depth with Kenneth’s backstory, but it is definitely more dynamic and smut-focused, which is fun.

Unfortunately, as much backstory as we get for our bottom Kenneth, he didn’t feel as complete a character to me as Ayla. Yet, Ayla had close to zero backstory (beyond being shown that he causes trouble everywhere he goes). This is mostly due to their personalities. As I’ve mentioned, Ayla is very playful and extroverted, so it is much easier to understand who he is and what he is about. It also makes him easier to connect with, as a result. Kenneth, on the other hand, is much more introverted. There is an endearing quality to him as this big, bulky man cries and expresses immense despair over his situation, but otherwise, I don’t really know who he is, which is a bummer.

It is also worth noting, at least in the English translation, that this ends with a “To be continued.” I have checked everywhere for any information on whether this was intended to be continued or whether there was any consideration for expanding on it, but everything says it is complete. I think it is a perfectly fine BL morsel if you want some quick dubcon/noncon with a vampire and a muscle bottom. But be warned, it will try to give you hope that there is more. I don’t blame the creator for this, as I am almost certain it was an error during translation, an accidental copy-paste by the platform, or something similar (feel free to correct me if you know better). But I am sad there isn’t more because I really like Ayla as a character.

I really failed starting with Define the Relationship for Chada‘s work (art, not story, of course). I am quickly realizing that they are one of my favorite creators, and this is a really good example of their work. It is a deliciously smutty morsel, with a vampire top that I desperately wish had a full series so we could see all of the mischief he gets up to while his sad knight follows close behind. It isn’t perfect, but it is so short that it is neither too much of a time sink nor a money sink, and I think it is worth it.
