Goblin - Elements

Synopsis:

Choi Jaewon is an omega, and he loves every moment of it. He spends his days seducing and playing with every beefy alpha he comes across, and each and every one of them is happy to be in his orbit. He never plans on moving on from this playboy lifestyle until his father offers him a substantial amount of money to return to South Korea for a while. Jaewon intends to go back, get the money, and run right back overseas to continue his carefree, sex-filled life, but he doesn’t anticipate being captured as soon as he comes back and being carted off to a wedding with an alpha he’s never met before.

As it turns out, his father and, in turn, his company were in immense debt.

And the only way to save it all was to approach a wealthy investor, whose only request was to be able to marry Jaewon. Jaewon is stunned, but then he finds out who his husband-to-be is. It’s none other than Yang Joonhee – Jaewon’s nerdy childhood friend, whom he used to take advantage of. Joonhee has become an entirely different person. He’s tall, he’s built, and, most importantly, he’s manifested as an alpha. Add in that he is heir to a fortune, and he’s the ideal alpha. Jaewon is attracted to him, sure, but Jaewon never pictured himself settling down. Can Jaewon learn to love his new domestic life, or will he be drawn back to his sex-filled playboy lifestyle?

Review:

When I saw the art, I immediately recognized it from You Get Me Going, which I loved. However, the writer of that title was Moscareto, one of my all-time favorite writers. They are not the writer for this title. Plus, one of my major complaints in You Get Me Going was the art. The artist from You Get Me Going is also the writer this time around, so, admittedly, I was a little nervous going into this. But this manhwa is a perfect example of why I will read works from writers and artists that I may not have liked at one time. The art in this is much more consistent, which is amazing to see. We love growth here.

I was also pleasantly surprised by how much I loved the writing here. It is considered a comedy, which always makes me nervous, as what is considered actually funny is just so divisive, more so than many other elements of fiction. For me, this is actually very funny. Jaewon is very much that easily manipulated asshole (think Hye-sung), which leads to so many hilarious moments. I love seeing how he viewed Joonhee in their youth, along with Jaewon learning he’s an omega when he had planned to be an alpha, only to pivot to become the ultimate sex fiend omega. The way the background character alphas are designed is hilarious, too, and having this playboy omega steadily worked over by an alpha is just the best. It isn’t the funniest thing in the world, but it certainly made me giggle, which is a win.

But where this absolutely kills is in the smut. Warning: this is full of dubcon. I, personally, love dubcon and noncon, but I know I am probably the minority here. If you’re looking for 100% consensual sexy time, you’re in the wrong place, but the smut is truly peak here. Jaewon is a sucker for pleasure, and he has some amazing ahegao faces. Watching him get completely wrapped around Joonhee’s little finger is everything, and I think it’s worth seeing in all its sexy glory. This is a relationship entirely reliant on good sex, which is either going to be a win or a loss for you, but for a degenerate like me, it’s a huge win.

Unfortunately, although I love most of this title, there is one issue I have. It’s a common issue with omegaverse titles, especially the short ones, but it’s one that is a near-dealbreaker for me every time. This mentions mpreg and children, but shows none of it. This ends rapidly, which isn’t all that surprising, given that it’s a 7-episode title, but it still takes the time to mention the kids‘ existence. I would’ve much preferred that they hadn’t even been mentioned, because not seeing them or the pregnancy at the very least is such a tease. I adore mpreg, but there are not enough visual examples of it, and this is just one more example of that. It’s very disappointing.

This was such a nice surprise. I went in with super low expectations, but this pleasantly proved them all wrong. I love the characters and the story this tells. The smut is plentiful and delicious, and my only complaint was that there wasn’t more time devoted to this story so we could see the pregnancy and the children. I would love for this to get a spin-off, but I would also love to read more from this creator. Their work as an artist has improved significantly, and I loved their writing. I recommend this smutty, omegaverse morsel.
